Several intriguing facts about the first smartphone from the well-known EV manufacturer, Nio have been revealed in a new study.
This Is What We Know
The chipset and charging capabilities of this new phone have apparently been leaked by someone with knowledge of the situation. Nio is a well-known Chinese maker of electric vehicles. The company’s founder had previously stated that once per year, the company will release a new phone that would serve as the company’s flagship model.
The newest information suggests that this Nio-branded smartphone would have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, which is currently the company’s top-of-the-line processor. This means that the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, the most recent and finest smartphone CPU from the chipmaker, is the most likely contender that meets the criteria. However, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset is expected to be present in the first smartphone of interest when it debuts sometime in 2019. Additionally, the smartphone is said to include a curved QHD+ display with an ultrasonic fingerprint reader and a punch hole camera on the front.
Contrary to popular belief, Nio already uses Qualcomm chips in the infotainment systems of its electric vehicles. So-called “mobile” processors like the Snapdragon 8155 are included. The company has designed its own operating system just for the EV’s UI, so it’s likely that the smartphone will also have a unique look and feel. Last but not least, the report indicated that the Nio smartphone will have a battery with a capacity of roughly 4,500mAh to 4,800mAh and support 100W fast charging.

The battery can be recharged at 100W utilizing a mechanism similar to Qualcomm’s Quick Charge, staying true to Nio’s fast charging reputation. A full charge from zero to one hundred percent will take about 25 minutes on its dual-cell battery.
The phone’s display is curved and will be QHD+ resolution. Company reports indicate a front-mounted ultrasonic fingerprint reader and punch-hole camera were chosen.
Remember that the company has not confirmed any of this and that some details may be sketchy at this time. For instance, sources generally refer to the cameras by the vague term “high-end,” without providing any additional information.

Nio Mobile Technologies, one of several Nio companies, was officially formed just last week. One of them is developing an electric vehicle for under $15,000 in price. In order to better serve its European customers, Nio is opening “Nio House” showrooms in multiple countries. With such a strong foundation, the Nio phone might soon be available in markets outside of China, including Europe.
